Increasing the capacity of NGOs and religious communities

Study

Survivor and Community
Led Response (SCLR)

We use the SCLR approach, which stands for Survivor and Community-Led Response. This approach empowers communities to autonomously identify their needs and priorities. We provide the necessary technology and tools to help communities find the most effective solutions to their challenges. This approach plays a key role in addressing crises at the community level, which is why we have chosen it.

SCLR is an adaptive methodology that has already been successfully used in a variety of sudden and protracted crises, including natural disasters, active conflicts, and the effects of climate change. One of the key parts of the approach is that the teams that directly apply it are allowed to adapt it to their specific operational environment.

The aim of SCLR is to improve immediate well-being, build long-term resilience and accelerate transformational change.

Sub-granting

This is a method of financing non-profit (public, charitable, religious, etc.) organizations whose activities have a social, humanitarian, or educational focus, which allows communities to respond to crisis situations that arise directly on the ground.

Sub-granting is implemented through an open call for proposals, where organizations have the opportunity to apply for financial support to implement their projects or initiatives. This process facilitates the competitive selection of projects that best meet the needs and challenges of the local community.

The main goal of the program is to strengthen the community's response to the urgent needs of the population, covering a wide range of areas such as social, humanitarian, educational, and other.

It also contributes to improving the quality of life. This includes creating conditions for personal development, realization of potential, development of educational initiatives to improve education, social integration, solving social problems, providing humanitarian assistance in crisis situations, meeting basic needs and other needs of people.

This program serves as a mechanism for joint community action to address important issues and meet the needs of different groups of the population.

Financial support for project initiatives

To help communities overcome the crisis, we provided financial assistance to communities in different regions of our country. In 2023, the Ukrainian Education Platform sub-granted almost UAH 40 million to NGOs and supported projects in five areas.

Religious communities

The Ukrainian Education Platform is actively working to strengthen Christian teams that seek to bring positive change to their communities.

We, as an organization, see great potential for the church to be one of the driving forces in the community, given the proactive position of the church and its understanding of the needs of the community.

To strengthen teams, we use training programs at various levels:

  1. For those who want to implement their first social project (Active Church in the Community, Church in Action)

  2. For teams that already have minimal experience and understanding of social projects and want to improve their skills and implement larger projects (Social Innovation of Communities)

  3. For those who implement social projects in their community, have a team, and want to turn their project into a sustainable social activity (School of Responsible Ministry)

Social bakery
«Korzhyk»

The first inclusive bakery «Korzhyk» in Fastiv, Kyiv region, where you can enjoy incredibly delicious cakes and cookies made by a «sunny» boy Mykyta Dunayev. Together with Father Vitaliy Martsyniuk, who learned about Mykyta's dream of becoming a confectioner, they managed to create a special place with a cozy atmosphere.

The Ukrainian educational platform promoted development and gave us the opportunity to learn!

We started our social service 10 years ago. Now, together, we are moving towards creating a social enterprise. We want to take care of socially vulnerable people, as I know many of them personally.

Community and team, it's a sign of equals

It all started with an idea (laughs). I realized that the situation in the village was critical and needed to be changed. So ideas were like bees: always swarming in my head. I lacked the resources and a team that would be the support and engine of these ideas. When I found out that there was training not just for me, but for a large number of people, and even before that, on the spot in the community, I realized that this was my motivation for change in the community - training for the team! That's how it all started...

The «Mshanets kolybas» has become a platform for village development (a kind of «village hub»), as it will be able to host various trainings, offsite conferences, seminars, and other educational, scientific, and cultural events, including the popularization of environmental ideas (cleaning riverbeds from debris, waste sorting, awareness of the harm caused by burning dry grass, smart forest management, etc.)
